Meeting Header

  • Chairman Tony Mills welcomed 29 members to the first meeting of the season and introduced each of the Officers and Management Committee members.
  • There are already 139 members who have paid their subscriptions for the season, higher than at the end of last season.
  • A report was given on the National Conference at the Hilton Hotel, Warwick in June. The theme was built around live TV viewing of the England v Paraguay World Cup match. Speakers included David Elleray, Mike Riley and Mark Warren, who had all been involved in top international tournaments and gave a fascinating insight into the preparation required by World Cup officials. Many of the Premiership referees were present, mixing with other members during the day and at the dinner-dance in the evening.
  • 505 referees have registered with the Gloucestershire FA so far this season, which is very encouraging. Anyone who has not registered yet was urged to do so without delay.
  • Plenty of kit and supplies items are available and orders can be made through Bill Bombroff.
  • Anyone interested in refereeing at Bristol University on Wednesday afternoons, including BUSA matches, should contact Colin Harris.
  • Simon Panes, Director of Sports Academies at Filton College presented the following awards:-
  • Member of the Year award to Andrew Kennedy
Sheldon Baker

  • Member of the Year award to Sheldon Baker

Sheldon Baker

These awards are being sponsored by the College for three years.
  • Colin Harris has stood down as County Training Officer but will continue as Training Officer for the branch and remain on the GFA Referees’ Committee. He is now County Assessment Coordinator, a new role brought about by the requirement to assess each County League referee on at least 50% of matches. He gave an overview of the new assessment scheme as the first part of a presentation to members.
  • Congratulations were given to Chris Cordy and Rod Green, who were among a number of people in the county who have recently qualified as FA Registered Assessors.
  • The meeting was then opened up to the floor for a lively and interesting discussion about various aspects of refereeing at the World Cup.
  • The next meeting is on Thursday 7 September, 7.30pm at the Memorial Stadium.
