September 2007 Meeting Header

  • There were 27 members present, including several attending for the first time.
  • The branch now has 144 full members and 3 guest members.
  • There are approximately 34 promotion applicants this season, slightly more than last season with a notable increase in those going from level 7 to 6. Thise present were reminded of the need to submit their fixtures and any changes to Colin Harris without delay.
  • Players are still required for the County skittles competition on Saturday 6th October at Viney Hill. Contact Paul Rees or Andrew Kennedy; transport can be arranged.
  • A leaflet was circulated with details and photos of the new RA kit which is considered very good value. For more information contact Steve Moore.
  • It was reported that levels of dissent are causing problems again and referees are asked to set their standard and enforce it consistently throughout each match, cautioning players and reporting managers and spectators as appropriate.
  • Members were reminded that if they are unable to accept, or unable to keep an accepted appointment, their Referees Secretary must be advised. Not only is this a requirement as a referee but also a matter of courtesy.
  • Guest Speaker was Chris Swift, from the Evening Post. Following a brief insight into his role, Chris led a very interesting question and answer session, mainly relating to Bristol Rovers and referees. His view was that referees on the Football League have improved over the years but he was less happy with the standard of some of the assistants.
  • The next meeting is on Thursday 4th October, when the Guest Speaker is Roger Vaughan, FA Referees Manager for the South-West. Prior to the meeting, there will be a meeting at 6.30 for young referees, which will also be addressed by Roger.
